Pics from 2010

Chihuahua Pup In Louisville Kentucky Pics from 2010Now that 2011 is here and our new year of shows is about to unfurl like the roads that we travel, Spoiled Pet Cafe would like to share some of the images we have gathered from 2010. While there are some images of human companions in some of the photos, the real stars of our business are the furry (and sometimes scaley or feathered) animal companions that enrich our lives in numerous ways every day. I hope you enjoy this slideshow and accept our sincere thanks for your patronage this past year and future patronage in 2011 and beyond. And as a highlight, the little girl in pink to the right was one of our final patrons this past year; and yes, most of our patrons do cause quite a few ohhhs! and ahhhs! and other such gushing moments.

Spoiled Pet Cafe Visitors At Knoxville's New Harvest Park Farmers' Market

Once again Spoiled Pet Cafe will be vending at Knoxville’s New Harvest Park Farmers’ Market on Thursday, July 8th. As usual we will have both our gourmet dog treats and gourmet cat treats. Remember that we don’t use any preservatives in our treats so it is important to refrigerate or freeze them within a couple of days of buying them. Many dogs and cats actually prefer cold treats as they can be soothing to the gums. Another benefit is that harder treats can help to effectively remove tarter from those pearly whites!

We hope you enjoy the image to the right of a couple of recent visitors to our booth!

Plenty of Fresh Water

With the 4th of July celebrations just a couple of days away, Spoiled Pet Cafe wanted to remind our loyal customers (and our new ones!) that today is the perfect opportunity to pick up fresh produce, artisan breads, and of course tasty dog treats and cat treats. By picking up those locally produced products today, you can cross that chore off the long holiday ‘to do’ list!

The holiday usually means cookouts, outdoor games, and quality family time. While most of us are aware of the dangers the long, hot summer days can pose to people, there are similar dangers for our beloved animal companions. The American Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals (ASPCA) just released these tips to help keep your family pets safe:

Made in the Shade
Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so give them plenty of fresh, clean water when it’s hot. Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun, be careful to not over-exercise them, and keep them indoors when it’s extremely hot.

Know the Warning Signs
Symptoms of overheating in pets include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse, seizures, bloody diarrhea and vomit, along with an elevated body temperature of over 104 degrees. Remember, animals with flat faces, like Pugs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heat stroke since they cannot pant as effectively.

No Parking!
Never leave animals alone in a parked vehicle. “On a hot day, a parked car can become a furnace in no time—even with the windows open—which could lead to fatal heat stroke,” says Dr. Louise Murray, Director of Medicine at ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital. Leaving pets unattended in cars in extreme weather is illegal in several states.

Beware of “High Rise Syndrome”
“During warmer months, we see an increase in injured animals as a result of ‘High-Rise Syndrome,’ which occurs when pets fall out of windows or doors and are seriously or fatally injured,” says Dr. Murray. This condition is completely preventable. Keep all unscreened windows or doors in your home closed and make sure adjustable screens are tightly secured.

Summer Style
Giving a dog a summer haircut—not too short, so they still have some protection from the sun—and brushing cats can prevent problems caused by excessive heat. As far as skin care, be sure that any sunscreen or insect repellent product you use on your pets is labeled specifically for use on animals.

Additional tips can be found on the Hot Weather Tips section of their website!

We hope everyone has a safe and fun-filled holiday weekend. The New Harvest Park Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday through November from 3-6 pm.

Not only does Spoiled Pet Cafe think this is true but so do the farmers, bakers, other vendors and of course the patrons who can be found at this excellent local park. While many cities only have farmers’ markets in one location, one day a week, the residents of Knoxville, Tennessee are fortunate enough to have both the Market Square Farmers’ Market and the New Harvest Park Farmers’ Market. So if you need a bit of diversion on your Thursday stop by New Harvest Park!

The approaching Memorial Day weekend is always a wonderful occasion to spend time with family and friends. In preparation for the weekend festivities, don’t forget to pick up your fresh produce, including beautiful greens, fresh strawberries, and a variety of other locally grown produce and breads at the Farmers’ Market. From backyard BBQ’s to music festivals, many people, cities, and organizations in the United States will pay tribute to members of the armed services and their service both past and present. As a friendly reminder, many of our four legged family members can be quite nervous during festive events for people (especially ones that involve fireworks) so be sure to take them into account by providing plenty of fresh water and a private refuge for them to relax and de-stress.  Spoiled Pet Cafe wishes all of our regular patrons (and the new ones we are gaining at every event) a happy and safe holiday weekend. This market will run every Thursday until to November 18th from 3PM to 6PM @ 4700 New Harvest Lane in East Knoxville. As usual, the farmers’ market will be comprised of local farmers, bakers, and other artisans vending locally produced items. You will be able to purchase fruits, vegetables, artisan foods, plants, flowers, herbs, and more from this local market.
